3 Hours — Adoptive Parent Orientation
All-Inclusive Seminar with thorough explanations of our agency background, the adoption process, disclosures, fee schedules, and all questions answered. This class is taught by the Social Work staff.
2 Hours — "What to Really Expect from Your Adopted Child"
Every adoptive parent desires a child that is grateful, sweet, thankful, and loving. They desire an easy transition, and are looking to fulfill their dreams of adoption. This simple mentality is not the norm. After twelve years of foster parenting sexually abused children, Kay Harsch displays the real truth about children. Their lives have been shattered, they have lost all hope, are self-centered, rebellious. In this seminar she will teach adoptive parents how to stay strong and focus on the needs of the child. She will help you support your child to overcome their past as well as give them a hope for the future, while teaching you what scripture says regarding parenting children.
2 Hours — "Shepherding a Child's Heart"
Shepherding a Child's Heart satisfies the hunger for fresh, biblical approaches to child rearing. Shepherding a Child's Heart is about how to speak to the heart of your child. The things your child does and says flow from the heart. Luke 6:45 puts it this way. "...out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks." Written for parents with children of any age, this insightful book provides perspectives and procedures for shepherding your child's heart into the paths of life.
This class will review the book and handbook that the adoptive parents will have previously read, as well as answer any questions the parents have regarding the material.
3 Hours — "Train up a Child"
This requirement can be satisfied by either prior completion of "Train up a Child" taught by Pastor Alden Stephens at Riverbend University, current enrollment in the course at Riverbend University, or in a condensed 3 hour course taught by our Social Work staff. This course provides the Biblical way to raise and discipline your child.
